Microdosing magic truffles means taking a very small amount of psilocybin, small enough that you don’t “trip”, on a fixed schedule. People microdose to support focus, creativity and mood in everyday life. In this guide we explain what microdosing is, how to find your dose, which schedule to follow and what to watch out for, based on the guidance we give every Awake customer.
In short: a typical microdose of fresh magic truffles is 0.5–1.3 gram depending on body weight. Beginners usually follow the Fadiman protocol (one dosing day, two days off), microdose for up to 8 weeks and then take a break of about 4 weeks.
What is microdosing?
With microdosing you take a fraction of a normal dose of a psychedelic, in this case psilocybin truffles. The goal is not a psychedelic experience, but subtle effects that fit into your normal day: you go to work, study, sport or spend time with family as usual. Psilocybin is converted into psilocin in the body, which acts on serotonin receptors in the brain. At micro amounts, most people describe the effect as a gentle shift rather than something they clearly “feel”.
Why do people microdose?
People who microdose most often report:
- More creativity: thinking more freely and making new connections.
- Better focus: being able to concentrate longer on one task.
- A more stable mood and more emotional openness.
- Feeling more connected to other people and to nature.
- More energy and motivation during the day.
Research into microdosing is still young and results are mixed; part of the effect may come from expectations and from the routine itself. Treat microdosing as a personal experiment: observe, write things down and adjust.
How much should you take? Microdose by body weight
Psilocybin spreads through the body, so a heavier person usually needs a little more for the same effect. Use this table as a starting point for fresh magic truffles:
| Body weight | Microdose (fresh truffles) |
|---|---|
| 40–50 kg | 0.5 – 0.7 g |
| 51–60 kg | 0.7 – 0.8 g |
| 61–70 kg | 0.8 – 0.9 g |
| 71–80 kg | 0.9 – 1.0 g |
| 81–90 kg | 1.0 – 1.2 g |
| 91–100 kg | 1.2 – 1.3 g |
These are guidelines, not rules. Start at the low end of your range. If you notice visual effects or feel “off”, your dose is too high: lower it next time. Prefer to calculate it? Use our dosage calculator.
Our microdosing strip contains six ready-to-use 1-gram portions of fresh Dutch truffles, so you don’t need to weigh anything. Lighter users can split a portion.
Microdosing schedules: Fadiman and Stamets
Whatever schedule you pick, consistency matters more than the exact protocol. Both schedules below build in days off to prevent tolerance.
Fadiman protocol (recommended for beginners)
Developed by psychedelics researcher James Fadiman: one dosing day followed by two days off. The days off help prevent tolerance and let you notice how you feel without a dose.
- Day 1: microdose
- Day 2: no dose
- Day 3: no dose
- Repeat
Stamets protocol (for more experienced users)
Based on the approach of mycologist Paul Stamets: four days on, three days off. It fits neatly into a week, which makes it easy to follow.
- Days 1–4: microdose
- Days 5–7: no dose
- Repeat
Important: microdose for a maximum of about 8 weeks in a row, then take a break of around 4 weeks so your body doesn’t build up tolerance.
How to take a microdose
- Start on a weekend. Your first dose is a test: you’ll find out how you react without work pressure.
- Take it in the morning, for example with breakfast, so any effect doesn’t interfere with your sleep.
- Chew or swallow. Chewing releases the active compounds faster. When swallowed whole, it can take 1 to 4 hours before you notice anything.
- Keep a journal. Note the time, dose and how you feel. For example: “9:00 taken with breakfast · 9:30 pleasantly relaxed · 12:00 focused longer than usual”. After a few weeks this tells you more than any guide.
- Be patient. Benefits often become noticeable only after a few cycles.
How to store microdosing truffles
Keep unopened packs in the refrigerator, where they stay good for about 2–3 months. Once a pack is opened, use the truffles within 2 days.
Who should not microdose?
- People under 18.
- Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding.
- People who use medication such as SSRIs or other antidepressants, or other psychoactive substances: interactions can be unpredictable.
- People with (a history of) serious mental health problems. When in doubt, always consult a doctor first.
Don’t combine microdosing with alcohol or other drugs.
Microdosing vs. a full dose
A microdose is meant to fit into daily life. A full dose of magic truffles is a completely different experience of 4–6 hours, with strong changes in perception, that you plan for a free day in a safe setting. Curious about that? Frequently asked questions
Will I trip on a microdose?
No. A correct microdose should not cause visual effects or a “high”. If it does, lower the dose.
How long does one microdosing strip last?
One strip has six doses. On the Fadiman protocol that covers about 2.5 weeks; on the Stamets protocol about 1.5 weeks.
Can I microdose every day?
We don’t recommend it. Without days off, tolerance builds up quickly and the effect fades.
