How to Take Magic Truffles: Chew or Swallow, Food & Dosing for Groups

Practical answers: chew or swallow, empty stomach or not, masking the taste, taking everything at once and how much you need for a group.

You’ve got your truffles. Now what? Do you chew them or swallow them? Should you eat beforehand? How much do you need when you’re with friends? These are some of the most common questions we get. Here are the practical answers.

In short: chew the truffles thoroughly, eat light beforehand (no heavy meal), take your whole portion at once, wait at least 90 minutes before even thinking about more, and mask the taste with a piece of dark chocolate. In a group, everyone needs their own dose: one 15 g pack is not enough for four people.

Step by step: taking a full dose

  1. Choose your dose based on your body weight and the variety. See the dosage guide or the calculator.
  2. Eat light. Have a light meal a few hours before, and avoid a heavy meal right before. This helps absorption and reduces nausea.
  3. Weigh your portion if you’re not using the whole pack.
  4. Chew thoroughly. Truffles are firm; chewing well releases the active compounds. Take your time.
  5. Mask the taste with a piece of dark chocolate or another low-sugar snack. The earthy, slightly bitter taste is normal.
  6. Drink some water and settle into your prepared space.
  7. Wait. Effects usually start after 20–60 minutes. Don’t top up within 90 minutes.

Chew or swallow?

For a full dose: chew. Chewing gives a more reliable and quicker onset. Swallowing pieces whole delays the effect and can make it weaker. For a microdose you may swallow the portion if you prefer; it then just takes longer (1 to 4 hours) before any subtle effect.

Empty stomach or not?

For a full dose: a light stomach works best. Not completely starving, not right after a big meal. A light breakfast or lunch a few hours before is ideal.

For a microdose: food matters much less. Many people simply take it with breakfast.

Can I mix truffles with food or drinks?

  • Dark chocolate: the classic way to mask the taste.
  • Light snacks like fruit or nuts during the session: fine and often helpful.
  • Alcohol and other drugs: don’t. It increases risks and makes effects unpredictable.

How much do we need as a group?

Every person needs their own dose, based on their own weight and experience. A rough idea for a small dose of our strongest variety, Hollandia, is about 5.5–7.5 g per person of 60–80 kg; milder varieties need more. That means:

Group Rough amount (small dose, Hollandia) Packs of 15 g
1 person ~5.5–7.5 g 1 pack
2 people ~11–15 g 1 pack
4 people ~22–30 g 2 packs

Use the calculator for each person, and plan a little extra for milder varieties. In a group, also agree beforehand who stays sober as trip sitter. See how to prepare.

Should I take everything at once?

Yes. Take your chosen portion within a few minutes. Spreading it over hours makes the experience weaker and unpredictable, because tolerance builds within hours. More on that in our tolerance guide.

What if I feel nothing?

Wait at least 90 minutes. Then check our list of common reasons for no effect.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make tea from magic truffles?

Some people do, but we recommend simply chewing them: it’s the most predictable way and the one our dosage tables are based on.

Can I split a pack over two sessions?

Yes, but once opened, use the rest within 2 days and keep it in the fridge. With tolerance in mind, a second full session that soon will be weaker. See how to store magic truffles.

Is it normal that they taste bitter?

Yes. Fresh truffles have an earthy, slightly bitter taste. Dark chocolate helps.
